Enroll in Retiree Health Benefits

Retired couple talking

In order not to delay the payment of claims after retirement, an employee should meet with Employee Health Benefits to complete all applicable paperwork at least 30 days prior to their last day of work.

Otherwise, benefits will terminate at midnight on the last day of the month the employee works until a new application is received along with the premiums. No benefits will be paid with a date of service after the benefits termination date.

  • 30 Day Grace Period to Re-Enroll
There is a 30-day Grace Period for the retiree to re-enroll in the plan after termination of benefits. All premiums from the termination date and the next month's premium (2 months) are due at the time of re-enrollment as a Retiree. Benefits will not be paid during the 30 day grace period.
  • Re-Enrollment in Medical Benefits
Once a Retiree terminates their enrollment in the County’s Retiree Medical Plan, there is no option to re-enroll past the 30 day grace period.

When you are ready to enroll

Step 1. Review your medical benefits and other benefit options.

Step 2. Contact Michael Horgan in Employee Health Benefits for further information.
