Dental Benefits

Retirees and/or participating dependents may elect to participate in the the Manatee YourChoice Dental Plan if they are enrolled as an active employee. If they are not enrolled at the time of retirement, they will not be able to enroll in the future. The Dental Plan is self-insured, and the enrolled Employees/Retirees pay 100% of the cost of the premiums.

The plan uses Aetna's PPO/PDN Network of providers and administration of the dental plan. Refer to the dental insurance section for more information.

Vision Benefits

Retirees and/or participating dependents may elect to participate in the the Aetna Vision Plan if they are enrolled as an active employee. There will be an opportunity to enroll at Annual Enrollment. The Vision Plan is self-insured, and the enrolled Employees/Retirees pay 100% of the cost of the premiums. The Aetna Vision Preferred plan helps you save on eyeglasses, contacts and more. You'll get an allowance to buy frames or contacts at any one of the nationwide providers, including LensCrafters, Target Optical, Pearle Vision, and more! Refer to the Vision Insurance section for more information.

Group Core Term Life and Additional Term Life Insurance

Retirees who enroll in Medical or Dental Insurance through Manatee County also receive a $1,000 Life Insurance policy at no cost.

At the time of retirement, employees may also choose a conversion or portability option in order to maintain the life insurance policies they had as an active employee.

Portability

  • Choose PORT to maintain a GROUP TERM LIFE POLICY.
  • Coverage available to port: Core Life, AD&D, Additional Life or Dependent Life Insurance.
  • Employee and spouse must be under age 70.
  • Coverage reduces to 65% at age 65.
  • You may port all or just a portion of the coverage you had as an active employee.
  • Proof of good health is not required.

Conversion

  • Choose CONVERT to change to an INDIVIDUAL LIFE POLICY.
  • Coverage available for conversion: Core Life, AD&D, Additional Life or Dependent Life Insurance.
  • Spouse and Child Life can be converted without election of retiree coverage.
  • Conversion rates are higher than ported coverage.
  • No coverage or age maximums apply and rates do not increase with age.
  • Proof of good health is not required.

Additional Long Term Disability

Additional Long Term Disability terminates on the last day of work. If an employee is on Long Term Disability and then elects to retire, the employee should contact the local Social Security office and Florida Retirement System regarding the availability and coordination of benefits.

Wellbeing Programs

Retirees and their eligible Dependents enrolled in any retiree Medical Plan may participate in some of the Wellbeing programs.  Refer to the retiree handbook for more info.

457 Deferred Compensation

Prior to retirement, an employee with a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan should contact their program representative for information regarding the various options for continuing or withdrawal of funds. Retirees of the BCC should contact their VOYA representative:
