Disability Insurance

Manatee YourChoice offers both Short Term and Long Term Disability Insurance plans

All Disability Insurance plans are offered through The Hartford Insurance Group.

Long Term Disability
  • Core Long Term Disability Insurance - There are no costs to the employee for the Core Long Term Disability Insurance benefit; it is 100% employer-paid. The Core Long Term Disability Insurance coverage benefit is equal to 50% of the employee’s base salary (maximum benefit of $3,000 per month)
  • Additional Long Term Disability Insurance - Employees can elect this optional coverage which enhances the Core Long Term Disability Insurance benefits. By adding on the Additional Long Term Disability Insurance, the employee's benefit is increased to 66-2/3% of the employee's base salary (maximum benefit of $5,000 per month) The cost for Additional Long Term Disability Insurance is determined by age and salary. The employee pays 100% of the cost of this coverage. Employees can elect Additional LTD and increase their benefit to 66-2/3% of base monthly salary, up to $5,000 per month, subject to age, salary, and Evidence of Insurability.
  • Once a Long Term Disability Insurance claim is filed and approved, the payment of benefits begins 90 days after the qualifying disabling medical event. Benefits may continue for an extended period of time - even after employment has ended. 
  • The bi-weekly premium cost of the Additional Long Term Disability coverage is paid by the employee.
Short Term Disability

Short Term Disability Insurance is an optional benefit. Employees can elect the coverage as a new hire, during Annual Enrollment, or when experiencing a qualifying life event.

The Short Term Disability Insurance benefit pays 60% of the employee's base monthly salary (maximum benefit of $1,000 per week)

The bi-weekly premium cost of the Short Term Disability coverage is paid by the employee.

  • The charge for STD benefits is a semi-monthly rate paid for by the employee.
  • This benefit pays 60% of base monthly salary if you are injured or disabled for up to 13 weeks after a 15-day waiting period.
